Philippe Coutinho scores his first goal for Santos FC as the Alvinegro Praiano wins at the Maracanã

In last Sunday’s match (18), the legendary Maracanã was too small for the Santos FC squad. The team, led by captain Neymar Jr, came from behind to defeat Fluminense 2-1, with goals from Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Barbosa. The result marked Santos FC’s sixth win in eight matches played away from Vila Belmiro. On a victorious afternoon, Coutinho was reunited with Neymar Jr on the pitch at the Maracanã for the first time in four years — and to crown the occasion, the forward scored his first goal for Santos FC.

The victory in the 31st round of the Brazilian Championship featured Santos FC’s magical quartet on the pitch: Neymar Jr, Coutinho, Gabriel Barbosa and Everton Cebolinha, all of whom have remarkable stories and memorable moments with the Brazilian national team. In addition to the attacking stars, Peixe also had Gabriel Bontempo as a highlight, a promising young talent who was called up to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the friendlies in Australia and India.

The result moved Peixe up to eighth place, with 45 points, keeping the team in contention for a place in the CONMEBOL Libertadores. Since the World Cup break, Santos FC’s numbers have been the best among Brazilian teams. The five consecutive away victories also equalled Pelé’s record from 1964.

On the next Saturday (24), at Vila Belmiro, Santos FC will face Bahia in the 32nd round of the Brazilian Championship.
